Health and Well-being for Refugee Families in Moldova

About
From August to December 2025, the NCUM implemented a humanitarian initiative aimed at strengthening access to reliable health information and promoting the well-being of refugee and host community families in the Republic of Moldova. The initiative was implemented with the support of the World Health Organization in Moldova and the European Union.
The project focused on improving health awareness, increasing access to verified medical information, and supporting the physical and psychosocial well-being of families affected by displacement. Activities combined online information campaigns with community-based events designed to address the most common health-related concerns among refugees.
Within the framework of the initiative, 40 informational materials were produced and disseminated through the communication channels of the National Congress of Ukrainians of Moldova and partner networks. Information was shared across 45 partner community groups and five NCUM channels, reaching more than 350,000 people. The project team also addressed a large number of individual inquiries from community members through comments and direct messages, providing verified information and guidance on accessing healthcare services and available support mechanisms.
To expand access to expert knowledge, the project produced five expert podcasts as part of the information series “Everything Will Be Clear.” The discussions featured medical professionals addressing key topics such as vaccination, access to healthcare services for refugees with temporary protection, mental health support, and health services for children and pregnant women. The initiative also included participation in the national television program “Știoțnevyk / Weekly” on Moldova 1, further increasing the reach of verified health information.
In addition to online activities, the project organized four community-based events at the Ukrainian House in Chișinău, focusing on maternal and child health, psychosocial well-being, and nutrition. The sessions brought together more than 48 pregnant women and young mothers, who participated in educational and support activities facilitated by medical professionals, including pediatricians, nutritionists, breastfeeding consultants, first aid instructors, and art therapists.
Through these activities, the initiative contributed to improving access to reliable health information, strengthening trust in healthcare services, and supporting the resilience and well-being of refugee and host community families in Moldova.
